I suppose it's better that there's less TV to watch in the summer - the days are longer and you spend more time outside, hence, less time for TV viewing. But re-runs of the OC (which I didn't watch when it was on) are all that's sustained my need for vegging out, brainless TV time this summer and the finale is on next Tuesday. Now what am I gonna do? Read a book?
Anyway, I just read about Kid Nation on TIME's TV blog (shameless workplace plug) and it sounds like it'll be a great show. After all, one of the best things about reality shows is watching the participants act like children. The Real World with mature adults devoid of any self esteem issues would be a really, really boring show. Now they'll have an excuse. I can see why people might think this is exploitative, but I'm sure the kids are in a safe environment (snakes and scorpions pictured in the teaser, aside). And, really, how different is this from summer camp? Those places have a huge Lord-of-the-Flies vibe going on.
