Here Kitty, Kitty, Kitty...

One of the really great things about my commute to work (and there are so few "great things" about it) is that I walk by the ASPCA building on 92nd street on my way to the bus.  In addition to seeing all the cool dogs and other various animals coming in and out of the doors (they have an elevator that fits horses!) there's a big window in the front where they keep all the cats.  Every time I walk by, I say hello to all the kitties and, being of the feline persuasion, most of them ignore me.  I'll occasionally get an unamused glare from one of them, but those are few and far between. 

But last week, there was a new edition to the brood, a black and white kitty, named Eden.  (She wears a collar with her name on it, that's how I know who she is.)  She's perky and playful, and she always gets up to rub her head against the window when I put my finger up to the glass.  Even when she's relaxing, she'll get up and stretch and come to the window to say hello.  Thanks to the magic of the interwebs, I looked her up on the ASPCA website and here she is: 

Now, I have too many cats already, otherwise I'd bring her home.  But if anyone's looking for a pet, especially if you think cats are boring, lumps of fur who spend all day looking down on humans and snubbing any attempt at affection, you should TOTALLY adopt Eden.  Her shots are up to date and she's already been fixed. 

"Things I Want" by Tord Boontje

Unfortunately, I think this guys name is pronounced "Turd" - but I don't think it means the same in Dutch as it does in English.  Anyway, I know I'm jumping on the bandwagon late, but I'm really enjoying his designs.  Delicate and flourish-y but still modern in the choice of materials and colors.  Plus, I LOVE the fact that even though he creates some really high end stuff, he also licenses out designs to less expensive retailers.  I have a plastic holiday platter from Target that he designed that was, like, $7.

My platter has similar patterns as these dishes. 

I'm thinking of purchasing this lamp.  It's relatively inexpensive and, WOW, is it pretty.  I'm not sure what it's made of - but it looks like it might easily catch on fire, right? 

I also like this clear table that, although not designed by Boontje, have a similar vibe. 

But in an effort to not overload the flowery-ness, these might be a better bet. 

These are quite nice as curtains, and they are designed by our friend Tord.

Here's a good example of something I'll never be able to afford.  The smaller version of this rug is over $4,000.  I'd start a mandatory barefoot in the house policy if I had this in my living room. 

This headboard is kind of Tord-esque.  Too pricey for me, but I spent a 1/2 hour on Craig's list last night looking for cast off headboards that I could re-upholster to look like this.

Last, but not least, that headboard reminds me of this soapdish, which has been in my "things I want" folder on my browser for about a year.
