Lights, Camera, Action - WIGGLES!
Frankie and Mitch and I spent the afternoon at the Wiggles show in Philadelphia today. We were kind of afraid that he would freak out and have to leave - but he was really great. He got a little scared when the lights went down, but once the Wiggles drove out in thier big read car he was so excited that it made me want to cry a little. He sang along and danced a little and, by far, the highlight was when Murry (Frankie's favorite Wiggle) came within about 5 feet of our seats. He lasted about an hour. As the show went on - I think the novelty of watching the Wiggles in person wore off and he turned to me and said he wanted to "play something else". We left before it was over, but all in all we had a great time.

Don't tell Dad...
... but momma bought a new stroller. Seriously. Don't tell him. Let me break it to him gently. (And don't worry, it's not like he reads this site on a regular basis)
After years of salivating over the Quinny Zapp (and the Buzz for that matter) but not wanting to make the commitment to the Dutch website that would charge an arm and a leg for shipping, the Zapp is for sale in the U.S. - and there's free shipping. The series of events that led up to this purchase really convinced me that I had to do it. Here's what happened:
First - I hate the MacLaren - the damn thing is flimsy, not as light as you think and as soon as you take the kid out it flips over. Plus, for a stroller that bills itself as being easy to transport - just wait until you see how small the Zapp folds up.
Next, I read about the Quinny's and I fell in love - but just cheap, internet love. Because they weren't for sale in the U.S. I couldn't touch one. I couldn't stop at Buy Buy Baby and roll it across the linoleum. I wrote about them and even e-mailed back and forth with brainybug who owns both a Zapp and a Buzz. He raved about them - but I felt that maybe he had to - he had shipped those things across the Atlantic (big decision) and could have been slightly biased about them. So I waited. And I settled. And seethed at the people with their $900 strollers who were so much luckier than me.
And lo and behold, on Sunday we were at the zoo and I saw a Zapp. And I asked the daddy pushing his daughter about it. He had bought it in Germany and flew it back (saved on the shipping) and he had wonderful things to say about it. He let me touch it and push it a little and it was as good (if not better) than I thought it would be. So I marched back to my husband and asked him when he would be going to Europe next, because I had a job for him. Then he started in on the negative talk. We already have a stroller, the kids over 2, we shouldn't spend money frivolously. All this nagging, despite the fact that HE just spent the equivalent of 187.8 Zapp strollers on a new BMW when our Volkswagen was in perfect condition and almost paid off. He achieved his dream of driving the car he wanted and now he was squashing my dream of driving the stroller that I wanted. And the worse part is that I needed him to buy it.
Or, did I? Less than 24 hours after my "test drive" I see this. That's right, the Zapp's for sale in the U.S. With free shipping.
It's already on its' way.

Frankie's #2!
I thought I was proud of my son when he pooped in his diaper for the first time as a tiny little newborn. But that's nothing compared to the pride I felt yesterday when I found out he pooped in the potty for the first time. And it was the first time he had ever tried. The babysitter said it was the most well-adjusted thing she's ever seen. (Did I mention he did it while I was at work and Mitch was in Portland?) The babysitter wasn't even in the bathroom when he did it. She hadn't expected him to go the first time she ever sat him on the potty so she was busy taking the teapot off the stove. I attribute his no-fuss attitude about the potty to the fact that we all let him hang out in the bathroom while we, uhm, demonstrate the technique. Just take a look at this re-enaction picture on the right. Where do you think he learned that excellent form?

Frankie's Idea of Heaven
Behold the new vacuum cleaner. Frankie actually cried when the guy at the store carried it for us. He thought he was going to take it away. It's safe to say that with the addition of the Dyson to our family - Frankie's obsession with the vacuum has grown to gargantuan proportions. And I can't say that I don't love it too - if I can't have a Bugaboo - I can at least clean house in style. The only problem is that FTM likes to take the attachments off and play with them and I'm afraid he'll misplace them. Forget about diverting his attention with his toy vacuum - it pales in comparison to the Dyson. And then, like an answer to my prayers - daddytypes finds a toy version of the Dyson! What do you think the shipping rate is from the UK? Probably more than you'd pay for the toy.

Smack Down
A very funny face-off between Dr. Sears and Dr. Weissbluth on Sweet Juniper. I have to say, as a brand new parent, some of this stuff (alright, all of it) was really difficult to read. Most of the "baby books" use these scare tatics and it gets to the point where you're sure your kid will turn out a serial killer no matter what you do. We're a Dr. Weissbluth house (with a few modifications) but I really hated reading that book.
