Well, not so much begins as continues, as it begun on Jan. 17th when we went to the Grammercy Park Hotel Fire Sale. Click here to see the story of our family outing complete with pictures. As you reach the end, you'll see the shots of the MAILBOX (forthwith to be referred to in ALL CAPS).
Basically, Aunt Jane bought the MAILBOX that day and today is the day the post office cedes ownership. She's driven up to New York (she lives in Atlanta, but was already in Philly) with a borrowed truck to lug the thing home. Or at least to Philly until she figures out what to do with it.
Once she and my dad arrived at the hotel (which they tell me is having an "Old New York" dress up party tonight) they realized two things. One, they'll need some tools and some help to pry the thing out of the wall. Two, the guy forgot to leave the letter of authenticity. Which severly hampers their plan to sell it to a collector/history buff. They're keeping me updated as the saga progresses. I'll let you know what happens next...
